Welcome to our multimedia network of designers, developers, and coders.
This is my first movie made in Carrara 8 pro. Now, it is not complete as I still need to make the intro and outro and a lot of it doesn't look to great... but again this is the first movie I've made with this program so there was a pretty significant learning curve.

You're welcome! Haha wow, you did all this with out watching tutorials or anything? o.o That's amazing! If it weren't for my dad and his friend already knowing some basic modeling from other 3D software (including from my dad's own 3D software he wrote a while back... it's no where near today's progrmas though) and showing me a tutorial on how to make a vase by extruding I would have never gotten into Blender myself when I did in 6th grade (though I didn't use it much after that till last year). Yep! The method of tracking the camera to an invisible one is useful but can be annopying at times as you have to position the object where ever you want the camera to look, but at the same time that is good since you always know the center of the scene will be on that one place you place the object. I used that method for all my camera positioning in my show what you know project this year and it work well (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFrXakjZjFk is the video, I'm still learning too so). I don't know all the similarities between Blender and Carrara but there is probably lot if it has the same modeling style as blender (sculpting, extruding, multiplying faces/lines/vertices (not the Google sketch up method... I dunno the terms for these styles.. my dad's friend was talking about it haha)) and a similair render to either Blender's primary renderer or it's new one Cycles. If you need help or anything on anything 3D just ask me since I've been doing this for a bit longer, though I feel I'm well behind your learning curve (meaning you could be well better than me by the end of the year if you keep this up XD). I'm still learning so I may not be the best but I can still help! :D Though a note to my style, I tend to use a lot of polygons and simulations and textures and stuff... Meaning I end up increasing my render times so always keep that in mind if I suggest using a lot of polygons it might not be the best idea XD
Thank you all for the many comments and certainly to Kitty (wow either I'm stupid or cant type because that took way too many tries...) for the suggestions. As to the movements and bits, well yeah that kinda sucked I know but I also went and watched some tutorials afterward (yeah great thinking there) so i have a better idea on how that works as well as I probably didn't use the motion system quite as efficiently as I could have. As to the camera thing, in fact i did track it to the character but the idea of using an invisible objects sounds much better as trying to position the camera just took too many tries and too much time. Also any suggestions could be helpful because I still haven't wrapped my head around 3D entirely yet so there are truly helpful to allow me to understand it more.
After rewatching this I noticed it looks like you tracked the camera to the character, which is good and bad in many ways. It mostly can cause some weird movements as the character moves pretty oddly around the area. To avoid that I'd suggest tracking the camera to an empty (I know blender has that, dunno about Carrara) or an object that isn't rendered but follows with the characters postion. That way you track to his position and not necessary his motion. You can also put some ease on the tracking or lower the constraint values of it so you can still move and rotate out of the tracking to get more exaggerate shots like when he's cutting a skeleton apart. Or simply animation the camera tracking being on and off for those shots. Still an amazing work!! :) Sorry for all the suggestions, don't mean to sound like criticizing, because I'm not at all!! :) Just suggesting things I've learned in heard from what I've seen of 3D and animating in it. Nice work!! :D
As a primary 3D artist I have to say this is a pretty good first animation in 3D, I know my first 3D stuff was a bit worse and took me a while to get into the animation part of it. The animation of the legs and arms and body together reminds me of my first armature and animation of it in Blender (another 3D software that is free unlike most). A way to fix the chaotic weird animation and problems of trying to animate it from different angles is to use somethign similar to Blender's NLA (non-linear action editor) which is the same concept as a symbol in flash. That way you can embed the walking as a cycle and tween between poses of exaggeration when needed for certain swings and put and blend in the arm swings on top of it using the NLA or out of it (I honestly don't know how to do this yet in Blender though). I can't comment on Carrara 8 pro so much and how to use it so can't sugest anything there. Nice work though and must have took a lot of devotion to the project to learn all this in time for the project to be done. Nice work again!
