For my first independent study project, I decided to start relatively simple. I digitally created an advertisement-style poster for the upcoming animation class for next year. Even though my goal was to use a broad range of the Adobe Master Suite, I ended up only needing a couple of Programs, namely Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Flash. Despite this, I believe the poster turned out well; It is relatively simple, easy to understand, and the vintage style is eye-catching.
A significant amount of work for this project went into reasearch, whether It was finding tutorials for the software, learning new techniques, or simply finding reference material for inpiration. However, once I had decided what I wanted, the work slowly came together.
The picture above is early in creation, when I Isolated the scientist from the backround of his original photograph.
About halfway through the poster creation, I decided to take a tutorial in order to make a more realistic note paper backround, and changed the colors of the photos by changing the blend modes of the layers.
In the end, I learned several new techniques in Photoshop, including blend modes of layers, changing adjustment values such as contrast and levels, and using clipping masks between layers.
